Allen Jones is one of the leading figures of British Pop Art. He studied at the Royal College of Art during the same period as David Hockney and R.B. Kitaj. From the 1960s onwards he developed a colourful and provocative visual language strongly influenced by popular culture, fashion, eroticism and modern urban life.
Jones works in painting, printmaking and sculpture and became internationally known for his controversial furniture sculptures, in which stylised female figures explore the boundary between art, design and object. His work has been the subject of major retrospectives at institutions including the Serpentine Gallery, Barbican and Royal Academy of Arts and is held in important international museum collections.
