Charles Bézie

1934 , Varades

Charles Bézie is a French artist who has worked with geometric abstraction since the 1970s. Straight lines, grids and carefully built layers of paint form the basis of his paintings. From the 1990s onwards he began using numbers to determine the rhythm and proportions of his compositions.

The Fibonacci sequence and the related golden ratio became important points of departure. In series such as Gradations, Cadences and Suite Fibonacci, Bézie translates mathematical structures into rhythm, repetition and subtle relief. His work is held in collections including Museum Ritter and various French and German museums.
