Heinz Mack is one of the most important German artists of the post-war avant-garde. In 1957 he founded the ZERO movement with Otto Piene, later joined by Günther Uecker. ZERO developed into an international network that included artists such as Yves Klein, Lucio Fontana and Jan Schoonhoven.
Light, movement and reflection are central to Mack’s paintings, prints, reliefs and sculptures. In his Sahara Project he explored the effects of light through sculptures and mirrors in the desert. Mack participated in documenta III and VI and represented Germany at the Venice Biennale in 1970. His work is held in major museum collections worldwide.
