Henk Peeters was a key figure in the Dutch post-war avant-garde. Together with Armando, Jan Henderikse and Jan Schoonhoven he founded the Nul group, the Dutch counterpart of the international ZERO movement. Peeters was not only an artist but also an organiser and connecting force. He maintained international contacts, including with Yayoi Kusama, and organised the important Nul 62 exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in 1962.
In his work Peeters experimented with unconventional materials and the direct experience of light, colour and matter. His ideas were closely aligned with ZERO and artists such as Heinz Mack, Otto Piene and Günther Uecker, giving him an important place in both Dutch and international ZERO history.
