Renze Koenes is a Dutch visual artist who takes everyday objects, still lifes and landscapes as his starting point. In his work, realistic representation gives way to a play of forms, patterns, contrasts and colour. Objects remain recognisable but are strongly simplified and rearranged.
Koenes works in a range of techniques, including painting, drawing, printmaking and three-dimensional work. His strong sense of composition and graphic, stylised visual language are characteristic, and also recur in his works using wood.
