Erró

Erró, born Guðmundur Guðmundsson in 1932 in Ólafsvík, Iceland, is a notable Icelandic Pop artist celebrated for his inventive use of collage. His work reassembles imagery from diverse sources such as advertisements, comics, and posters, drawing comparisons to earlier Pop artists like Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and James Rosenquist. Erró studied engraving, fresco, and painting at the Academy of Oslo and began exhibiting his art in the mid-1950s. In 1989, he donated his archives to the City of Reykjavik, leading to the creation of the Erró Collections at the Reykjavik Art Museum. In 2000, he was awarded the Honorary Artists Stipend by the Icelandic Parliament, and a museum dedicated to his work opened in Reykjavik the following year. A major retrospective of his collages, spanning 50 years, was held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2010.
