Collection: Howard Kanovitz

Howard Kanovitz (1929, Fall River, Massachusetts – 2009, New York) was a prominent American artist known for his contributions to photo-realism and abstract art. After studying at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Art Students League, he apprenticed with Franz Kline in New York. Kanovitz first gained recognition for his photo-realistic paintings in the 1960s, which sparked significant debate within the art world.

He is also noted for his innovative use of airbrush techniques and shaped canvases. Kanovitz's work has been showcased in major exhibitions, including Documenta 5 and 6 in Germany, and in solo shows at the Jewish Museum in New York and the Wilhelm-Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg.

In his later years, Kanovitz incorporated computer technology and mixed media into his art, exploring themes of light and perception. At Kunsthandel Meijer, we feature works by Howard Kanovitz. Please feel free to contact us or visit our gallery if you are interested in his art.
