Collection: Jasper Johns
Jasper Johns (1930, Allandale, South Carolina) is a prominent American artist known for his impact on Pop Art. Influenced by Marcel Duchamp, Johns gained fame in the 1950s with his flag paintings, first exhibited at Leo Castelli's gallery in New York in 1958. His work includes iconic images like the American flag, targets, and numbers, and he also created sculptures, such as life-size painted bronze cans of Ballantine Ale. Johns received major accolades, including the top prize at the São Paulo Biennale in 1967 and a significant award at the Venice Biennale in 1988. His work has been widely exhibited, including at Documenta in Kassel.
