Collection: Heinz Mack
Heinz Mack (1931, Hessen) is a German sculptor and painter known for his contributions to kinetic and light art. Mack studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf in the early 1950s. In 1957, he co-founded the avant-garde artist group Zero with Otto Piene, and Günther Uecker joined them in 1961.
Mack participated in documenta III in Kassel in 1964. His work was featured in the German pavilion at the 1967 World Expo in Montreal, where his piece Farblichtkrone was displayed. In 1970, he represented Germany at the Venice Biennale alongside Thomas Lenk, Karl-Georg Pfahler, and Günther Uecker. The same year, he exhibited at the World Expo in Osaka with three artworks in the German pavilion and a 12-meter-high light column on the exposition grounds.
He also took part in documenta 6 in 1977. Mack received the Kulturpreis der Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Rheinland in 1992. His work was shown at the Stiftung für Konkrete Kunst Roland Phleps in Freiburg im Breisgau in 2000 and 2004.
