Collection: Robert Mangold
Robert Mangold (American, 1937) is a renowned artist known for his role in Minimalism and his exploration of formal construction in painting, sculpture, and drawing. His work is characterized by shaped panel paintings that utilize subtle color modulations and precise graphite lines, offering viewers a contemplative experience. Mangold emphasizes the challenges of abstract painting, which he believes requires a more focused engagement compared to other art forms.
Born in North Tonawanda, New York, Mangold studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art before earning his MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1963. His work is held in prominent collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Kunstmuseum Basel.
Robert Mangold lives and works in New York with his wife, Sylvia Plimack Mangold, who is also a painter.
