Collection: Luc Tuymans

Luc Tuymans (1958, Mortsel, Belgium) is a pivotal figure in contemporary painting, renowned for his distinctive figurative style that emerged in the 1980s. His work, characterized by a restrained palette and complex moral undertones, is based on preexisting imagery from diverse sources.

Tuymans first gained significant recognition with major museum presentations in 1990 at the Provinciaal Museum voor Moderne Kunst in Ostend and the Vereniging voor het Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst in Ghent. His participation in Documenta IX in 1992 and a solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Bern further established his reputation.

In 2001, Tuymans represented Belgium at the Venice Biennale, solidifying his influence on the global art stage. He continues to live and work in Antwerp.
