Collection: Sonia Delaunay

Sonia Delaunay (1885–1979) was born in Ukraine. After her education at the art academy in Karlsruhe, Germany, she moved to Paris. There, she pursued further art training and created works inspired by artists such as Gauguin, Matisse, and Van Gogh.

In 1908, she married the German, homosexual gallery owner Wilhelm Uhde (1874–1947). Her later husband is Robert Delaunay. It is believed that she married Uhde to escape her parents, who did not support her art career. Uhde could conceal his homosexuality in this way, and Delaunay benefited from the connections she gained through Uhde.

At Kunsthandel Meijer, we offer works by Sonia Delaunay. If you are interested in acquiring pieces or learning more about her art, please feel free to contact us or visit our gallery.
